It's Friday!! My YouTube Channel sucks, why that doesn't matter, and what we all need to be focusing on

Tara Leson Episode 30

I've received a few messages about my YouTube channel...

I wanted to record this episode for a bit now and a bite-sized Friday seemed the perfect one to share this.

It's not all about the YouTube channel, but it kinda is. And why I don't care right now if it sucks and more importantly, what I am focusing on - and what you should too!

Speaker 1:

okay, it is friday or maybe it's not when you're listening to this, but it is Friday when this is going up and it is another 10 minute quick tip. And today it is all about how I know that my YouTube channel sucks and there's a bigger lesson in this. It's not all about that. There's a bigger lesson in that. So the story behind this is kind of funny. Since I have been posting more on LinkedIn and I've been posting podcast episodes and I've been posting the link to the YouTube channel, I have been having people reach out to me and let me know that my YouTube channel well, first off, they don't tell me straight up that it sucks, which is really nice. I do appreciate that and, like full transparency, I am aware. And like full transparency, I am aware, I am aware and I know what I need to do to fix it. This is kind of the funny part about this. I totally know what I need to do to fix it. I know what I need to do to optimize it. I know that I need to use different hashtags and keywords and the SEO and all of the things. I know what I need to do and what I need to research to actually improve it and increase my views and do all of the things, and we will get there in a second, but anyways, I'm having these people reach out to me and tell me about. You know, your channel looks great and overall everything looks really good. You have good videos and they're going on and on and whatever, but you aren't getting the views that you should be getting and you know so many more people should be seeing what you are doing and, da-da-da, we really want to increase your SEO and do all of these things. And no, my response isn't just no, but I always just reply with thank you. I'm actually not focused on that right now, because that's the truth. I'm not, and this is the bigger lesson here. I am well aware that that my YouTube channel is not optimized. It doesn't. I shouldn't say it sucks, but it is not optimized. Well, I totally know this. I know this, and it's fine. If people want to tell me that I don't care, it's fine. You can tell me that I know this.

Speaker 1:

But there are other things right now that I need to focus on, not YouTube. I don't want to be a YouTube star. I'm not going to focus on growing a YouTube channel. I want to put the videos on there so that it increases my visibility, because YouTube is really good as a search platform, so if people come across it, great, that's fine it also it will come up when you search in Google. It comes up on there.

Speaker 1:

So there are different benefits for it still, but it is not something that I'm going to be optimizing and spending a whole ton of time on right now, because I know that is not what I need to focus on in my business, and so what I want you to take away from in all of this is you can do things in your business and you can have pieces of your business that are not perfect, and I mean, let's be real, Nothing is ever going to be perfect. Perfect doesn't exist Like it does not but you can truly have things that are in your business that aren't totally perfect and optimized and you know exist for a reason, but they are not your primary focus, and YouTube is that for me. I post videos on there, yes, but I am not super focused on it. I know that that is not the place where you know I'm likely to get a ton of leads or clients or anything like that, so putting my focus on YouTube would be a waste of time and you really have to consider this when you're looking at your business. So you can kind of do some of these things.

Speaker 1:

Because this is the other thing, youtube doesn't take me a ton of time. I mean, I record my videos and my podcast on Zoom, upload it to YouTube, create the graphic in about two minutes, and it's done because I use the same show notes as I do on the podcast, like it doesn't. It's not that it takes me extra time, so for me to post it there, it's not a huge deal, but it's also not somewhere I'm going to be spending a ton of time. So for me to post it there, it's not a huge deal, but it's also not somewhere I'm going to be spending a ton of time. It is just for extra visibility and maybe at some point, maybe I will optimize it better. But I don't want to be a YouTube star, so I don't really care. Youtube star, so I don't really care.

Speaker 1:

The point is, you can absolutely do this. You can have different platforms that you don't utilize as much I have in my business. I have, you know, instagram, linkedin, tiktok, facebook, youtube, my podcast. I have all of those things, but I use them to varying degrees and they are optimized. In some ways they are driving leads back. You know, like driving leads there. You know capturing leads and driving people to my website in some ways, but not all of them are completely optimized, because it really depends where.

Speaker 1:

Like when we're looking at your business, you have to figure out where are your ideal leads and where do you need to focus. That's what you need to focus on, and if they're not on YouTube, you don't have to focus there and I wouldn't focus there. If you don't want to be a YouTube star, why would you focus on YouTube? It's the same thing like tiktok your leads aren't there. Don't worry about it. Don't make that your primary focus. So that's kind of the lesson for today. Tip for today. Let me know what you think about that one. If, what are you thinking about? That you need to shift in your business, or did that help you with kind of some clarity on how you are using different platforms and giving yourself permission to not, you know, chase perfection on every single one, because you don't have to and it doesn't exist anyway. So let's just stop chasing that altogether. That is it for today. That is all I got for you and I will catch you in the next one.
